Former US President Donald Trump has stirred conversation online after posting an AI-generated image of himself dressed as the pope on his Truth Social account. The image shows Trump wearing white papal robes, a golden cross, and a mitre hat, pointing upwards.

This comes shortly after Trump joked to reporters that he would like to be the next pope. His post appears ahead of the Vatican’s conclave scheduled for May 7, which will choose a new pope after the passing of Pope Francis on April 21.

Trump, who attended the late pope’s funeral, said he does not have a strong preference for the next leader of the Catholic Church, but spoke well of a New York cardinal. Notably, about 20% of Americans identify as Catholic, and a majority supported Trump in the last election.
