An American man has pleaded guilty to organising brutal cockfights in the state of Rhode Island, USA. Onill Vazquez Lozada admitted to running and sponsoring deadly rooster fights in 2021 and 2022.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, these were not simple rural games — the roosters were fitted with sharp metal blades tied to their legs and forced to fight to the death.
Cockfighting is banned across the United States for being violent and cruel. The act is considered a serious federal crime. Lozada now faces up to five years in prison and a fine of $250,000 — over Rs70 million in Pakistani currency. He will be sentenced on July 29.
