Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced a temporary ceasefire in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict in observance of Easter.

According to the Kremlin, the ceasefire will be in effect from 6:00 PM on April 19 until midnight on April 21. Russia expects Ukraine to respect the truce, warning that any violations will be met with a strong response.

President Putin stated that Ukraine’s conduct during the ceasefire will indicate whether it is genuinely interested in pursuing peace. He reaffirmed Russia’s readiness for negotiations and welcomed the peace efforts by the United States, China, and other international players.

Meanwhile, the U.S. has presented a new peace proposal to European allies aimed at establishing a ceasefire and ultimately ending the conflict.

According to international media reports, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio discussed the plan during a meeting in Paris, suggesting that if a lasting truce is achieved, some sanctions on Russia could be eased.
