New Delhi: India has declared another Pakistani High Commission official persona non grata, ordering him to leave the country within 24 hours, prompting Pakistan to consider reciprocal measures.
According to the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs, the diplomat was accused of engaging in activities inconsistent with his diplomatic status. The Pakistani Charge d’Affaires was also summoned and handed a démarche.
On the other hand, diplomatic sources in Islamabad say Pakistan is preparing to expel an Indian diplomat in response. The Indian Charge d’Affaires, Geetika Srivastava, is expected to be summoned to the Foreign Office soon to receive a formal démarche.
This is the second such incident in recent weeks, as India had previously expelled another Pakistani diplomat, triggering a strong protest from Islamabad.
