Light Rain Expected in Karachi as Monsoon Spell Approaches on July 5

Karachi: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast light rain and drizzle in Karachi today, with partly cloudy skies expected throughout the day. This weather pattern is influenced by a western disturbance, and light rainfall is likely to continue until tomorrow.

According to the PMD, today’s maximum temperature in the city may reach up to 32°C. With sea breeze restored and humidity levels at around 85%, the weather is expected to remain humid. Winds from the southwest are blowing at a speed of 7 km/h.

The Met Office also confirmed that the second spell of monsoon rains is expected to impact different parts of the country starting Saturday, July 5. This upcoming spell may bring more widespread rainfall.

Meanwhile, isolated showers are also expected today in parts of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, and lower Sindh, as per the latest advisory. In light of continued rains in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood alert for vulnerable regions.

There are concerns about possible flooding in areas including Swat, Chitral, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Peshawar, Bannu, and Waziristan, where water levels in rivers such as the Swat River and Panjkora are continuing to rise. A low-level flood has also been predicted in the Kabul River, prompting instructions for local administrations to take precautionary measures.

The PMD has further warned of landslides in hilly regions such as Murree and Galiyat and possible urban flooding and power outages in low-lying areas due to heavy downpours.
