Damascus: Israeli warplanes launched heavy airstrikes on the Syrian capital, targeting the Ministry of Defence building and areas near the Presidential Palace, according to Arab media reports.

The attacks caused widespread destruction, with multiple casualties reported, although the exact number of dead and injured has not been confirmed. Explosions were reportedly heard across large parts of the city, and fires broke out at several impact sites.

Syrian state media confirmed the strikes, while Israel’s Defence Minister shared a video of Syrian TV coverage on social platform X, stating: “The intense strikes have begun.”

The assault marks another major escalation in the already volatile region.
