Breast Cancer Awareness: First Lady and Pink Ribbon CEO agree on joint action

Islamabad: CEO of Pink Ribbon Pakistan, Omer Aftab, met with First Lady Asifa Bhutto Zardari at Aiwan-e-Sadr to discuss collaborative efforts for breast cancer prevention and awareness.
The First Lady emphasised the urgent need for coordinated action involving government institutions, healthcare professionals, the media, and communities. She highlighted that one out of 9 women in Pakistan is at risk, and late diagnosis remains a major cause of mortality—despite the fact that early detection can lead to over 90% survival.
She stressed the importance of ensuring timely screening, accurate diagnosis, and quality treatment for all women, especially in rural areas. She also called for increased access to mobile mammography units and community outreach programs.
The First Lady further urged the media, educational institutions, and religious leaders to actively participate in a nationwide awareness campaign, making women’s health a national priority.
