Lahore/Karachi: Pakistan began its 78th Independence Day with 21-gun salutes and special prayers for national peace and prosperity. Ceremonial guard-changing events were held at the country’s key national monuments.

At Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi, a smartly turned-out contingent of 91 cadets from the Pakistan Navy, including four female cadets, assumed ceremonial guard duties. Commodore Tasawwar Iqbal, the chief guest, laid a wreath, offered fateha, and recorded his remarks in the guestbook.

In Lahore, a disciplined unit of Punjab Rangers took part in the ceremony at Mazar-e-Iqbal, where security duties were formally handed over to the Pakistan Army.

Across the country, Independence Day celebrations continue with national fervour, as cities shine with illuminations, flags, and public events.
