President and Prime Minister address the Nation on Independence Day

Islamabad: On Pakistan’s 78th Independence Day, President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended heartfelt congratulations to the nation, emphasising the values of unity, sacrifice, and sovereignty.
In his message, President Zardari said the day reminds the nation of the struggles and sacrifices of Quaid-e-Azam and the leaders of the Pakistan Movement. He praised the nation’s unity and resolve in the recent “Marka e Haq”, calling it a testament to Pakistan’s military and national strength.
Referring to unprovoked Indian aggression, the President said Pakistan responded with restraint, wisdom, and strength. He reaffirmed unwavering support for the Kashmiri people’s right to self-determination and called for building a just, equal, and united Pakistan beyond all divisions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in his message, described Pakistan’s 78-year journey as one of sacrifice, resilience, and hope. He paid tribute to the freedom movement’s leaders and said the Pakistani nation has achieved remarkable success in every field.
The Prime Minister said the victory in the “Marka e Haq” has added pride and renewed spirit to Independence Day celebrations. He lauded the armed forces for crushing enemy arrogance within hours, calling the battle not just a military success, but a vindication of the two-nation theory.
He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to defending its borders, water resources, and national interests with unity. Stressing peaceful coexistence and dialogue, he urged India to resolve all disputes, including Jammu and Kashmir, through negotiations.
PM Sharif concluded by stating that national unity is the foundation of progress, and it’s time for Pakistan to become economically invincible, just as it is in defence.
