Punjab Enters 9th Spell of Monsoon; Heavy Rainfall and Flood Warnings Issued

Lahore – The 9th spell of monsoon rains has begun in Punjab, with authorities warning of heavy downpours and potential flooding in several districts. According to the spokesperson of the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the upper catchment areas of rivers are expected to receive particularly intense rainfall.
From today until September 2, most districts of Punjab are likely to experience severe stormy rains. Areas including Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Gujrat, and Sialkot are expected to witness significant rainfall. Other districts such as Narowal, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Okara, Sahiwal, Kasur, Jhang, Sargodha, and Mianwali are also forecasted to receive rain.
Additionally, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, and Rajanpur may experience rainfall over the coming days. In response, Punjab Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed has instructed all divisional and deputy commissioners to remain on high alert. The provincial government has issued warnings to district administrations following directions from the Chief Minister of Punjab.
Monsoon rains have led to rising water levels in rivers and adjoining streams, creating a high risk of flash floods. The Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers are currently at extreme flood levels, posing a threat to nearby urban areas. Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed urged officials to stay in the field and monitor the situation closely.
Departments including Health, Irrigation, Communications, Local Government, and Livestock have been alerted to prepare for emergencies. Citizens are advised to exercise caution during adverse weather, avoid gathering near rivers, refrain from recreational visits, and stay in safe locations during storms and high winds.
For emergencies, residents can contact the PDMA helpline at 1129.
