Taliban Frees American Citizen Amir Amiri

Kabul: The Taliban government in Afghanistan has announced the release of an American citizen, Amir Amiri.
According to the Afghan Foreign Ministry, Amiri was handed over to Adam Boehler, the U.S. Special Envoy for Hostage Affairs. Boehler had paid an unusual visit to Kabul earlier this month, during which prisoner exchange discussions were held with Taliban officials.
In its statement, the ministry said that the Taliban does not view civilian cases through a political lens but prefers resolving matters through diplomacy and dialogue.
Foreign sources noted that limited information has been shared about Amir Amiri’s case, and the issue was not widely reported in international media.
It is worth mentioning that on September 20, the Taliban also released British citizen Peter Reynolds and his wife after eight months in custody, with Qatar playing a mediatory role in the process.
