President Zardari: Gilgit-Baltistan is My Home, Region Deserves Its Own Airline to Boost Tourism

President Asif Ali Zardari said on Friday that Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) is his home and its people proudly chose Pakistan in 1947, a decision that remains a source of pride for the entire nation.
He was addressing the 78th Independence Day celebrations of Gilgit-Baltistan held in Gilgit, where he participated as the chief guest.
The President said that Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, in 1974, abolished the Frontier Crimes Regulation (FCR) and ended princely rule, laying the foundation for the region’s democratic rights.
Highlighting his party’s contribution, Zardari noted that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) government granted legislative autonomy to Gilgit-Baltistan by establishing its Legislative Assembly, enabling the people to make decisions about their own future.

President Zardari emphasized that providing education, healthcare, and basic amenities to the people of the region remains a top priority for the government.
He praised the patriotic spirit of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan, calling the region a symbol of national pride and stability.
During his address, the President proposed that Gilgit-Baltistan should have its own airline, saying such an initiative would promote tourism and strengthen the local economy.
He added that the majestic mountains of Gilgit-Baltistan are a national treasure, and the region’s beauty makes every Pakistani proud.
Comparing the situation with Indian-occupied Kashmir, President Zardari said that the people of Gilgit-Baltistan live freely, while those in occupied Kashmir continue to suffer under Indian oppression.
He also acknowledged the sacrifices of PPP workers from Gilgit-Baltistan, who have played a key role in democracy, development, and the defense of Pakistan’s borders.
