ICC Clarifies Bangladesh Will Play T20 World Cup Matches

Dhaka: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has assured Bangladesh that the team’s participation in the upcoming men’s T20 World Cup will continue without disruption. The ICC emphasized cooperation with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to address any security concerns. Officials said safety measures would be carefully considered throughout the tournament.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board dismissed media claims of an ICC ultimatum over match locations. Board officials clarified that reports suggesting points forfeiture warnings were false. They emphasized that constructive communication between national and global cricket authorities remains ongoing.
Confusion arose after a virtual call on Tuesday between the ICC and the BCB. Several Indian media outlets reported that the ICC had rejected Bangladesh’s request to play matches outside India. These reports suggested that points could be forfeited if Bangladesh did not travel.
However, the BCB firmly denied receiving any such ultimatum. Officials stated that no directive regarding points forfeiture was issued during the discussion. The board also noted that the ICC welcomed Bangladesh’s suggestions about safety arrangements for the team.

The virtual meeting had been convened following a letter from the BCB to the ICC on Sunday. The letter requested that the governing body “consider” relocating Bangladesh’s matches outside India. The ICC responded positively and assured the board that participation would proceed safely.
As of now, neither the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) nor the BCB has released an official statement clarifying the outcome of the talks. Despite conflicting reports, both authorities continue to coordinate on security and logistics for the tournament.
Overall, cricket officials emphasized that Bangladesh will play its scheduled matches in India. The ICC and BCB continue to collaborate to ensure safety and smooth participation. Fans can expect the team to take part in the T20 World Cup as planned.
