Donald Trump has announced that the United States has launched a major military operation against Iran. He stated that the objective is to eliminate threats posed by the Iranian government and defend the American people.
In a video statement released on his social media platform, Trump said US forces had initiated large-scale military action. He reiterated that Iran cannot be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons.
The US president claimed that Iran’s missile systems and missile industry would be targeted, and that steps would be taken to neutralize Iran’s naval capabilities. He added that the US has taken every possible measure to reduce risks to American personnel in the region.
Reports indicate that the United States and Israel have jointly launched missile strikes against Iran. US forces are reportedly conducting operations from the air and sea, while Israeli air operations are also ongoing.
Strikes have been reported in the capital Tehran as well as in Isfahan, Tabriz, Qom, and Karaj, with plumes of smoke seen rising in Tehran.
Following the attacks, Iran closed its airspace to all air traffic and warned both the US and Israel to prepare for a severe response, further escalating tensions in the region.
