Iran Rejects Negotiations With United States, Araghchi Says

TEHRAN — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi declared that Iran has completely closed all avenues for talks with the United States. He emphasized that past experiences created deep mistrust. Araghchi said that the United States had misled Iran during earlier diplomatic efforts. He described those efforts as the “worst form of deception” carried out in the name of diplomacy. Therefore, he argued, Iran can no longer rely on U.S. promises or goodwill.

Araghchi explained that repeated broken assurances have eroded trust over time. He noted that the United States often gave verbal guarantees that were later violated. These actions, he said, left Iran with a “bitter experience” in negotiations. Consequently, Iran views any new proposals with suspicion and caution. The minister stressed that diplomacy requires trust, which no longer exists between the two countries.

He also pointed out that ongoing regional conflicts have worsened tensions. The disputes have created a climate where dialogue is almost impossible. Araghchi said these issues have effectively ended any opportunity for renewed talks. Moreover, he emphasized that Iran will now rely on other measures to safeguard its national interests.

Araghchi criticized U.S. assurances of non-aggression as misleading. He argued that promises alone cannot guarantee safety or stability in the region. According to him, Iran has repeatedly experienced disappointment when trusting these promises. As a result, the foreign ministry now considers negotiations futile.
