Pakistan has taken center stage on the global diplomatic front after successfully facilitating a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, marking a significant breakthrough in a rapidly escalating conflict.

The agreement came at a critical moment when tensions were nearing a dangerous peak, with threats of widespread destruction and severe economic fallout looming over the world. Through persistent backchannel diplomacy, Pakistan’s civil and military leadership played a pivotal role in bringing both sides to the negotiating table.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and military leadership maintained continuous communication with key global players, including the US, Iran, China, Russia, and Gulf countries. These efforts, carried out over intense rounds of talks, ultimately led to the ceasefire agreement just hours before a crucial deadline set by Donald Trump.

The ceasefire also included the reopening of the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, through which a significant portion of the world’s oil supply passes. This move immediately eased global market concerns, leading to a sharp drop in oil prices and restoring confidence in international trade routes.

While the truce is temporary, it has provided a crucial window for diplomatic negotiations aimed at achieving long-term peace in the region. Pakistan has also invited both parties to Islamabad for further talks, signaling its intent to remain actively involved in the peace process.

However, challenges remain. The ceasefire is conditional, and tensions in other parts of the region, particularly involving Israel and Lebanon, continue to pose risks to stability.

Despite these uncertainties, Pakistan’s role as a mediator has been widely acknowledged, highlighting its growing influence in global diplomacy and its commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region.
