Islamabad issues traffic diversion plan for US-Iran talks

Authorities in Islamabad have announced a comprehensive traffic diversion plan ahead of high-level talks between the United States and Iran, with strict measures aimed at ensuring security and smooth movement during the event.
According to the Islamabad Traffic Police, heavy traffic will be completely banned from entering the capital on April 11 and 12 as part of heightened security arrangements linked to the diplomatic engagement. The plan includes multiple route diversions and alternative pathways for both local commuters and intercity travellers.
Commuters travelling from Peshawar to Rawalpindi via GT Road have been advised to use the Taxila Motorway, while those heading from Lahore towards Peshawar should take alternative routes such as Rawat, Chak Beli, Chakri, and the motorway network.
Residents of key sectors including G-5, F-6, and F-7 have been directed to use Margalla Road, while those in G-6 and G-7 should opt for Ninth Avenue. Traffic from Faisal Avenue towards Zero Point will also be diverted to Ninth Avenue to ease congestion in central areas.
For those travelling between Bhara Kahu and Rawalpindi, routes such as Korang Road, Bani Gala, Lehtrar Road, and GT Road have been recommended. Similarly, commuters from Rawalpindi to Islamabad have been advised to use Ninth Avenue via Saddar.
Authorities also issued specific directions for intercity travel, urging vehicles moving between Peshawar and Lahore to use motorway links via Tarnol and Fateh Jang.
Officials said the diversion plan is essential to manage increased movement and maintain strict security protocols during the Islamabad Talks, which are expected to draw significant international attention.
