Iran’s ambassador to Pakistan, Reza Amiri Moghaddam, has described the recent Islamabad talks between the United States and Iran as the beginning of a broader diplomatic process rather than a one-time event.

In a statement shared on social media, the envoy said the talks had laid the groundwork for a sustainable framework of engagement between Washington and Tehran. He emphasised that the dialogue could evolve into a meaningful and long-term diplomatic effort if supported by mutual trust and political will.

Moghaddam expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s role in facilitating the negotiations, particularly acknowledging Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Army Staff Asim Munir for their leadership and initiative. He also praised the contribution of Pakistani institutions, including security agencies, for ensuring a smooth and secure environment for the high-level talks.

According to the ambassador, the negotiations were conducted in a peaceful, organised and respectful setting, with equal logistical support extended to all participating sides. This, he noted, helped create a conducive atmosphere for dialogue on complex and sensitive issues.

The Iranian envoy further stated that his country’s delegation participated in the talks with confidence, focusing on protecting national interests and securing the legitimate rights of its people. He reiterated that continued diplomatic engagement remains essential to achieving a lasting resolution.

The remarks come after marathon negotiations in Islamabad concluded without a formal agreement but with both sides agreeing to keep communication channels open.

Observers view the ambassador’s statement as a sign that despite ongoing differences, the process initiated in Islamabad may serve as a foundation for future progress in US-Iran relations.
