A serious case of medical negligence has surfaced in Faisalabad, where surgical scissors were reportedly left inside a patient’s body during open-heart surgery. The incident took place at the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology. Moreover, hospital authorities have launched an investigation and initiated action against the responsible staff members.

According to the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Nadeem, a 22-year-old patient named Saqlain from Toba Tek Singh underwent open-heart surgery at the facility. However, staff nurses allegedly failed to properly check the surgical instruments after the procedure. Consequently, a pair of scissors remained inside the patient’s chest following the operation.

Reports stated that the patient suffered severe pain for nearly three weeks after the surgery. Doctors later performed another operation to remove the scissors from his body. In addition, hospital officials claimed that the patient’s condition is now being closely monitored after the corrective procedure.

Dr. Nadeem said the initial inquiry revealed negligence on the part of the staff nurses involved in the surgery. According to him, the medical instruments were not properly counted after the operation, which is considered a serious violation of surgical safety procedures. Furthermore, the incident has raised concerns about the hospital’s monitoring and accountability system.

Hospital management has withdrawn the services of the two staff nurses found responsible for the negligence. At the same time, a formal letter has been sent to the provincial health secretary requesting further disciplinary action. As a result, additional investigations by health authorities are expected in the coming days.

Medical experts say such incidents not only endanger patients’ lives but also damage public trust in healthcare institutions. Analysts stressed the need for stricter oversight and better training for medical staff to prevent similar cases in the future. In conclusion, the incident in which scissors were left inside a patient during open-heart surgery in Faisalabad has become a major warning sign for the healthcare system.
