PTI challenges 26th constitutional amendment in Supreme Court

Islamabad, The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party filed a petition in the Supreme Court (SC) on Saturday, challenging the 26th Constitutional Amendment. The petition was submitted through Sameer Khosa, representing PTI, and argues that the amendment is unconstitutional.

In its application, PTI contends that the parliament does not have the authority to amend the fundamental features of the constitution, emphasizing that the independence of the judiciary is a core principle. The party asserts that any amendment that undermines judicial independence goes against the very essence of the Constitution.

The petition further argues that the 26th Constitutional Amendment violates the basic principle of the separation of powers as outlined in the Constitution. PTI has requested the court to nullify all actions taken under the amendment and to issue an order preventing the Judicial Commission (JC) from appointing judges until the court delivers a final ruling on the matter.
