Addressing her supporters in Washington, D.C., Democratic candidate Kamala Harris acknowledged her election defeat, stating, “My heart is at peace, and I am grateful for the trust you’ve placed in me.” Speaking at Howard University, Kamala emphasised the democratic principle of accepting results.

She shared that she had congratulated Donald Trump and pledged to support a peaceful transfer of power. “A fundamental principle of democracy is to accept the results,” she said. “This is what distinguishes us from fascism.”

Kamala expressed her determination to continue fighting for the issues central to her campaign, despite the electoral loss. Reassuring young people, she said, “There is nothing wrong with feeling disappointment and sadness, but trust that everything will be alright.”

She lit a beacon of hope, adding, “We may be entering a dark time, but I believe that only in the darkest moments can we see the stars.”
