Albania Appoints World’s First AI Minister to Combat Corruption

Tirana: In a groundbreaking move, Albania has appointed the world’s first artificial intelligence (AI)–powered minister as part of its fight against corruption.
Prime Minister Edi Rama introduced the new cabinet member during a Socialist Party meeting, announcing that the AI official will oversee public procurement and tenders. The AI minister has been named “Diella”, which means “sun” in the Albanian language.
Rama stated that this step will ensure complete transparency in public spending, as AI technology will eliminate the possibility of corruption. “Every fund submitted for tenders will remain fully transparent, making this system 100% corruption-free,” he emphasised.
This marks the first time in history that a government has officially appointed an AI system as part of its cabinet, setting a unique precedent for digital governance worldwide.
