PM Shehbaz Sharif Offers Peace After Victory Over India at UNGA

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif addressed the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) on September 26. He declared Pakistan’s victory in the May conflict with India and offered a sincere peace proposal. Sharif said, “We have won the war, and now we seek to win peace in our part of the world.” He called for dialogue and cooperation to resolve regional issues.

Sharif outlined the complex challenges facing the world today, including conflicts, violations of international law, and climate change. He stressed that multilateralism is essential for peace. Pakistan’s foreign policy is based on peaceful dispute resolution, mutual respect, and diplomacy. The prime minister emphasized that Pakistan acted decisively against unprovoked aggression from India in May.

He detailed Pakistan’s military response under the leadership of Asim Munir, praising the armed forces’ bravery and professionalism. Sharif highlighted the success of Pakistani air forces and honored the martyrs and their families. He thanked former U.S. President Donald Trump for his role in facilitating a ceasefire, calling it vital in avoiding a full-scale war in South Asia.

Sharif criticized India’s actions, including its refusal to accept an international investigation into the Pahalgam incident and the suspension of the Indus Water Treaty. He warned that any violation of the treaty would be considered an act of war. The prime minister urged India to engage in comprehensive dialogue on all outstanding issues.

Finally, Sharif expressed solidarity with Kashmiris and reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for their right to self-determination. He called on the UN to facilitate an impartial plebiscite in Kashmir. Sharif’s speech combined a strong defense of Pakistan’s actions with a firm offer for peace and cooperation in the region.
