Australia Announces Initial Squad for T20 World Cup 2026

Cricket Australia has unveiled its initial squad for the ICC T20 World Cup scheduled for February 2026, with several prominent players making their return. Pat Cummins, Cameron Green, and Cooper Connolly have been recalled after missing the recent T20 series against India.

Chief selector George Bailey stated that Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Tim David are progressing well in their recovery programs. He expressed confidence that all three will regain full fitness ahead of the mega tournament.

Bailey emphasized that the announced squad is provisional, and changes may be made during the support period if required. He added that the selection panel is closely monitoring players’ fitness and form.

The initial squad includes captain Mitchell Marsh along with Xavier Bartlett, Cooper Connolly, Nathan Ellis, Pat Cummins, Tim David, Cameron Green, Josh Hazlewood, and Travis Head. Other members are Josh Inglis, Matthew Kuhnemann, Glenn Maxwell, Matthew Short, Marcus Stoinis, and Adam Zampa.

According to the selection committee, the squad offers a strong balance of pace, spin, and all-round options, making it well-equipped for the conditions expected in India and Sri Lanka.

George Bailey also revealed that the squad for the three-match T20 series against Pakistan will be announced later, with a possibility of giving opportunities to emerging players.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2026 will kick off on February 7 in India and Sri Lanka, where top cricketing nations will battle for the coveted title.
