Authorities announce free local transport during Basant festival

Lahore authorities have finalized the city’s transport plan for Basant, offering citizens free travel across major routes. Officials said the plan aims to ensure safe, smooth, and accessible movement during the festival.
The Punjab Mass Transit Authority, Punjab Transport Company, and private rider companies jointly developed the plan. Authorities coordinated to cover expected commuter surges during the celebrations.
Free transport will be provided on the Metrobus service and the Orange Line Metro Train throughout Basant. Citizens will be able to travel without paying fares on these services.
Citywide coverage will include 24 bus routes, with 228 feeder buses and 64 Metrobus vehicles operating on main corridors. Additional buses will be deployed from government colleges and universities.

Officials said 54 buses from colleges and 73 from universities will operate to expand free travel capacity. Approximately 516,000 people will benefit daily from the bus services.
The Orange Line Metro Train can accommodate around 250,000 passengers daily, while Metrobus services will provide travel for about 87,000 people each day. Detailed route information has been shared by authorities.
For kite flying, the Lahore district administration lifted restrictions on ordering kites and strings from other cities. Only registered kite makers and traders can place orders with QR-coded items.
