Lahore: A new proposal has emerged to start summer vacations early in schools and colleges across Punjab due to the rising threat of extreme heat.

According to details, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave alert for the province and sent official letters to the Education and Higher Education Departments. The proposal includes adjusting school timings and considering an early summer break if temperatures continue to soar.

In light of the heatwave forecast, the PDMA has also issued precautionary directives to all commissioners and deputy commissioners across Punjab.

Key recommendations include:

Ensuring uninterrupted access to clean, cold drinking water in schools and colleges

Advising students to wear lightweight, loose-fitting clothing

Strengthening coordination with district disaster management authorities to ensure timely information flow regarding weather risks

The PDMA earlier warned that temperatures could rise by 4 to 7 degrees Celsius this month, particularly affecting major cities, plains, and southern districts of Punjab.
