ChatGPT introduces powerful new “Memory” feature

California: OpenAI’s popular AI chatbot, ChatGPT, got a major upgrade with the introduction of a powerful new “Memory” feature that allowed it to remember past conversations and use that information in future chats.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced the feature on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), describing it as “surprisingly effective” and a step forward in making ChatGPT more personalized and helpful.

“With this feature enabled, ChatGPT can retain important user-specific details—like the number of people in your family, your favorite foods, or your preferred conversation style—and use them to provide more relevant, faster, and personalized responses in future interactions,” he added.

He further said that users who prefer more privacy would still have full control. The memory feature can be easily disabled via the settings menu.

Initially, this feature would be rolled out in the coming weeks for ChatGPT Plus subscribers (paid users). There is no timeline yet for free users.

According to OpenAI, the more you interact with ChatGPT, the smarter and more tailored it becomes—learning your needs and communication style over time to enhance your overall experience.
