China unveils prototype of CR450 high-speed train

BEIJING: A groundbreaking prototype of China’s CR450 high-speed electric multiple unit (EMU) train was unveiled in Beijing on Sunday, marking a significant milestone in the country’s high-speed rail development.

Once operational, the CR450 is expected to reach speeds of up to 400 kilometres per hour, positioning it as the fastest high-speed train in the world, according to China Railway, the country’s railway operator.

The introduction of the CR450 is poised to revolutionise travel, greatly reducing journey times and improving connectivity across China. The new train aims to enhance convenience and efficiency for millions of passengers.

During preliminary testing, the CR450 prototype achieved a remarkable speed of 450 kilometres per hour. Key performance metrics, including operational speed, energy efficiency, interior noise levels, and braking distance, have set new international standards for high-speed rail systems.
