Beijing: China has achieved a major milestone in renewable energy by generating enough wind and solar power in May 2025 alone to meet the entire annual electricity demand of Poland.

During that month, China installed 93 gigawatts (GW) of solar capacity and 26 GW of wind power, equivalent to installing nearly 100 solar panels every second. Experts say this level of generation could also meet the energy needs of countries like Sweden or the UAE.

Between January and May, China added 198 GW of solar and 46 GW of wind capacity, enough to power nations like Indonesia or Turkey.

For the first time, China’s total solar capacity surpassed 1,000 GW, now accounting for half of the world’s total solar infrastructure.

According to Lauri Myllyvirta of the Asia Society Policy Institute, China remains one of the world’s largest emitters of greenhouse gases, it is also emerging as the global leader in clean energy technology and deployment.
