ISLAMABAD – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Yahya Afridi has called a meeting of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) to be held on April 18 (Friday) at the Supreme Court, as reported by Dunya News.

Sources reveal that the agenda for the April 18 session includes discussions on the nomination of two additional judges to the constitutional bench of the Supreme Court. This step is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen the judiciary and ensure the timely dispensation of justice at the highest level.

In a separate development, the JCP has scheduled another meeting for May 2. This session will focus on selecting the new Chief Justice of the Balochistan High Court (BHC). The Commission is expected to review potential candidates for the post and finalize a nomination.

The May 2 meeting will also include deliberations on the appointment of a new Chief Justice for the Peshawar High Court (PHC), signalling a broader reshuffle in the country’s judicial leadership.

The Judicial Commission of Pakistan plays a crucial role in the appointment of judges to the superior judiciary. Under the recently enacted Article 191A, introduced through the 26th Constitutional Amendment, the JCP has been entrusted with the responsibility of nominating judges to constitutional benches in the Supreme Court and high courts across the country.
