CM Maryam Nawaz Launch of Air Punjab

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has directed officials to make Air Punjab operational at the earliest.

In a meeting held in Lahore on Saturday, the chief minister emphasized completing all necessary formalities for the airline’s first phase without delay. She also instructed the authorities to acquire modern and comfortable aircraft on lease, ensuring quality and convenience for passengers.

The meeting confirmed that the initial flight route will operate between Lahore and Islamabad, marking the first operational corridor for the regional airline.

Additionally, the Murree Glass Train Project was reviewed during the meeting. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif directed officials to take practical steps to ensure the timely completion of the project.

Earlier, CM Maryam Nawaz had announced the launch of Air Punjab, a regional airline designed to provide affordable and reliable air travel between major cities in the province.

In a separate initiative, the Punjab government unveiled the country’s first airlift drone to assist in flood rescue efforts. The drone is capable of airlifting individuals weighing up to 200 kilograms, facilitating rapid evacuations from flood-affected areas. Officials have dispatched the drone to Multan for immediate use in ongoing rescue operations.

Before deployment, the Civil Defence Department successfully conducted test flights in Lahore. Authorities also announced plans to procure 10 additional drones to enhance disaster response capabilities.

Punjab has launched a new air quality forecast system to help control pollution and improve public health. Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb announced the system on Saturday. It combines real-time monitoring with modern scientific models to provide daily updates. The system is designed to meet local needs and follows the modern air quality index. It will forecast both weather conditions and pollution levels.

The government has installed 41 air quality monitoring stations across Punjab as part of this plan. According to the minister, this number will increase to 100 in the coming days. These stations collect real-time data on air quality across major cities. This data will help authorities take quick action to reduce pollution. Weekly reports will also be shared with the public for greater awareness.
