LAHORE: On the directives of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Wildlife Department has launched a province-wide crackdown on individuals keeping lions without licences.
According to officials, raids were conducted at 22 locations across Punjab, resulting in the seizure of 13 lions and the arrest of 5 individuals, who now face legal action.
Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb stated that the illegal trade of wildlife is unacceptable, urging citizens to report unlicensed exotic animal ownership via helpline 1107.
In a high-profile case, two illegally kept lions — a six-month-old white tiger and a female baby lion — were recovered from a goldsmith’s home in Tandlianwala, Faisalabad. The suspect fled during the raid.
The seized animals were presented in court, where a judge ordered their transfer to Lahore Safari Zoo.
