Lahore – Customs authorities at Lahore’s Allama Iqbal International Airport have successfully apprehended an individual attempting to smuggle over 1.6 kilograms of gold, six diamond sets, and five iPhones into Pakistan. The suspect, identified as Asif Shahzad, was arrested upon his arrival from Dubai aboard private airline PA-417.
According to customs officials, Shahzad concealed the gold in his clothing in an effort to bypass security checks. The contraband was discovered during routine screening procedures. In addition to the gold, six diamond sets and five iPhones were also seized from his possession.
Customs authorities have filed a case against Shahzad under the Customs Act, and an investigation is underway. The arrest highlights the ongoing efforts by Pakistan’s Customs Department to curb illegal smuggling at major international airports.
In a separate incident earlier this year, customs officials foiled a money laundering attempt at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport. The authorities intercepted a passenger bound for Doha who was found to be carrying $20,000 in cash. The money was confiscated, and a First Information Report (FIR) was filed as authorities continue their investigation into the case.
