Earthquake of Magnitude 5 Jolts Swat and Nearby Areas

SWAT – An earthquake measuring 5.0 on the Richter scale shook Swat and surrounding regions on Saturday, according to the National Seismic Monitoring Centre (NSMC).

The tremors, which caused brief panic among residents, were felt in Swat, Mingora, Lower Dir, Chitral, and nearby areas. The earthquake’s depth was recorded at 130 kilometres, with its epicentre located in the Hindu Kush mountain range.

Fortunately, there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

Earlier, a stronger earthquake measuring 5.9 had struck several major cities in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP). According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the quake originated near the Afghanistan-Tajikistan border at a depth of 94 kilometres.

Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and report any damage if observed.
