ECP Forms Committee to Organize Islamabad Local Elections

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken a key step toward Islamabad’s local body elections. The move follows a request from the Ministry of Interior. The ECP issued an official notification to establish a committee for this purpose. Officials said the decision aims to ensure smooth and timely election preparations. The committee will oversee all critical matters regarding local government elections.

The committee in Islamabad includes several key officials to manage electoral tasks. Muhammad Ali Randhawa will serve as the convener, while Zafar Iqbal Hussain joins as a member. Additional members are Nadeem Qasim and Irfan Nawaz Memon. These officials will coordinate efforts to finalize election-related matters efficiently. They will meet regularly to monitor progress and resolve issues.

One of the committee’s main responsibilities is finalizing the boundaries of town corporations. They will also determine the number of union councils in each town. Officials will ensure that authentic maps and area names follow approved delimitations. This step is crucial to maintain transparency and accuracy in the election process. Furthermore, the committee will prepare a draft for amendments to the ICT Local Government Conduct of Elections Rules 2015. The changes come under the ICT Local Government Amendment Ordinance 2026.
