ECP to Hold Key Meeting Today on Punjab Local Body Election Preparations

Islamabad : The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is set to hold a key meeting today to review preparations for the upcoming local body elections in Punjab.
According to sources, the meeting will assess administrative readiness and election arrangements. The Chief Secretary Punjab and Secretary Local Government have been summoned to brief the Commission.
Briefings are expected on delimitation and demarcation rules, as well as the completion of legal and administrative procedures related to the local elections.
Earlier, on October 21, the ECP had issued a notification confirming that the Punjab local government elections will be held under the new Local Government Act 2025.
The Punjab Assembly has approved the new act, which has also been signed by the Governor. The implementation of the new law has officially repealed the Local Government Act 2022.

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has released an updated schedule for the upcoming by-elections in five constituencies across Faisalabad and Sahiwal. The elections, which were previously postponed due to severe flooding and water discharge from India, will now be held on November 23, 2025.
According to the official notification, the constituencies where polls will take place include NA-96, NA-104, NA-143, PP-98, and PP-203.
Key dates in the revised schedule are as follows:
- 
October 24: Last date to file appeals against decisions made by Returning Officers. 
- 
October 31: Deadline for the Appellate Tribunal to announce its decisions on all appeals. 
- 
November 1: Publication of the final list of candidates. 
- 
November 3: Final date for withdrawal of candidatures. 
- 
November 4: Allocation of election symbols to contesting candidates. 
The by-elections are being organized under the provisions of the Election Act, 2017, and the ECP has urged all political parties and candidates to strictly follow the prescribed code of conduct throughout the process.
Punjab Local Government Elections Scheduled for December
In a related development, the ECP has also confirmed that local government elections in Punjab are set to be held in the last week of December 2025. These polls will be conducted under the Local Government Act 2022.
