Elon Musk case Modi
Elon Musk’s social media company X has filed a legal case against the Indian government. The lawsuit challenges India’s internet censorship policies under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s administration. X argues that the government’s content removal orders are unconstitutional and threaten free speech in the country.

According to international media reports, the lawsuit was filed in an Indian court this week. X claims the Modi government pressures the platform to delete thousands of posts. These posts often include political cartoons, news stories, or criticism of the government.

Elon Musk, owner of X, strongly condemned the censorship. He said freedom of expression is under attack in India. Musk also stated that government agencies have been given wide powers to suppress opposing voices online. He called this a serious threat to democracy.

The lawsuit highlights that since September 2023, India has issued online censorship orders through a platform called “Sahyog.” X described Sahyog as a censorship portal and refused to take part in it. The company claims this system forces tech firms to quietly obey removal requests.

X’s legal team argued that forced compliance with Sahyog violates fundamental rights. They insist tech companies should not act as tools of government control. X believes the Indian government is using these tactics to silence public criticism.

Supporters of free speech have also criticised Modi’s policy shift. Many believe the crackdown targets political dissent and independent reporting. Human rights groups say such moves weaken democratic values. They argue that open debate is essential for a healthy society.
