The European Union will provide guidance to Google on how rivals and AI developers can access its services and Gemini AI models.

The decision comes under the EU’s Digital Markets Act, which aims to limit Big Tech’s market power and ensure fair competition.

EU tech chief Henna Virkkunen said the guidance will ensure third-party search engines and AI providers receive the same access as Google’s own services.

Google rejected allegations of unfair advantage, stating that Android is open by design and it already licenses Search data to competitors under the DMA.

Regulators will issue two proceedings. One will clarify how Google must grant AI providers effective access to its Gemini AI features.

The other proceeding will detail how third-party search engines can access anonymized ranking, query, click, and view data on fair, non-discriminatory terms.

EU antitrust chief Teresa Ribera said the goal is to make the digital playing field open and fair. The Commission expects to complete proceedings in six months.
