Federal cabinet to review key issues in 21-point agenda meeting

One of the key items on the agenda is a review of the tariffs for eight bagasse power plants, including JDW, Chiniot Power, Hamza Sugar, Al Moeez Industry, Thal Industry, and Chinar Industry. The cabinet will examine the financial aspects and performance of these power plants as part of the ongoing energy sector reforms.
In addition to the energy sector, the cabinet will be briefed on the latest steps taken by the government to increase tax collection targets. This discussion comes amid efforts to boost revenue generation and address fiscal challenges.
Another major point of focus is the decision to allow business-class foreign travel for ministers and federal secretaries, which will be reviewed by the cabinet members.
Furthermore, the State Bank of Pakistan Amendment Bill 2024 is expected to be approved during the meeting. This bill is a significant piece of legislation aimed at enhancing the governance and operational framework of Pakistan’s central bank.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will also update the cabinet on the renewal of the Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) for Pakistan Chairs abroad and seek approval for the establishment of the Islamabad Central Business District Development Authority, a key project to drive urban development in the capital.
The cabinet will also receive a briefing from the committee tasked with stabilising urea prices, alongside discussions on reclassifying the Pakistan National Shipping Corporation as a strategic institution.
Finally, there will be deliberations on the restructuring of the price control committee for medicines to ensure better regulation and affordability of essential drugs.
