Former Australian Test cricketer and commentator Michael Slater has been sentenced to four years in prison by an Australian court after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including domestic violence.

According to proceedings at the Maroochydore District Court in Queensland, Slater admitted to assaulting a woman in late 2023. The court was also informed that the former cricketer has long struggled with alcohol addiction, which has complicated his rehabilitation process.

Despite the sentence, Slater has already served over a year in custody, which will be counted as time served toward his prison term.

Michael Slater represented Australia in 74 Test matches and 42 One Day Internationals during his cricketing career. His sentencing marks a troubling chapter in the life of a once-celebrated sports figure.
