Colombo – Former Sri Lanka Test captain and veteran batter Angelo Mathews has officially announced his retirement from Test cricket. The announcement comes ahead of the first Test match against Bangladesh, scheduled to begin on June 17 in Galle.

Mathews shared the news via a heartfelt message on his social media platforms, stating that while he is stepping away from red-ball cricket, he will remain available for selection in the white-ball formats (ODIs and T20Is) whenever his country needs him.

Having made his Test debut in 2009, Angelo Mathews has represented Sri Lanka in 119 Test matches and led the side in 34. Over the years, he established himself as one of Sri Lanka’s most dependable all-rounders, often playing key roles in turning games in his team’s favour.
