CM Aftab Shaban Mirani Passes Away

KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party leader Aftab Shaban Mirani passed away on Saturday after a brief illness. He was hospitalized in a private Karachi hospital for a few days before his death. His funeral will be held in Karachi, where family, friends, and political colleagues are expected to pay their respects.

Mirani served as the Chief Minister of Sindh in 1990. He also held the position of Defence Minister in Benazir Bhutto’s government from October 1993 to November 1996. During his political career, he earned recognition as a loyal PPP leader and experienced parliamentarian.

He was elected multiple times to the National Assembly from Constituency NA-202 (Shikarpur-I). His terms included 2008–2013, 2014–2018, and 2018–2023. He remained an active participant in parliamentary affairs and provincial development initiatives throughout his career.

President Asif Ali Zardari expressed deep sorrow over Mirani’s passing. He called him a senior parliamentarian and a committed PPP leader. The president offered prayers for his soul and condolences to his family during this difficult time.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also expressed grief over the demise. He praised Mirani’s political services and stated that his contributions to the people will always be remembered. Both leaders highlighted Mirani’s dedication to public service and his lasting impact on Pakistani politics.

October 16: The funeral prayers of senior Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and former Speaker of the Sindh Assembly, Agha Siraj Durrani, were offered on Wednesday night in his ancestral town of Garhi Yaseen, Shikarpur.

A large number of political figures, party workers, and tribal elders from Sindh and Balochistan attended the funeral to pay their respects to the veteran politician. Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, along with provincial ministers and members of both the National and Sindh assemblies, participated in the last rites.

Notable PPP leaders present included Zia-ul-Hassan Lanjar, Saeed Ghani, Nisar Khoro, and Imtiaz Sheikh, among others, all of whom expressed sorrow over the loss of a seasoned party stalwart.
