Former South Korean First Lady Kim Keon Hee Arrested

Former South Korean First Lady Kim Keon Hee has been arrested after a court approved her detention. She is the wife of former President Yoon Suk Yeol, who is currently in prison.

Authorities detained her following allegations of stock fraud, bribery, and abuse of influence. The arrest marks a major development in South Korea’s ongoing political scandals. Public attention has sharply increased since the court’s decision.

Foreign media reported that Kim is accused of wearing a luxury Van Cleef pendant worth over $43,000. She allegedly wore it during the NATO Summit alongside President Yoon.

Prosecutors say she failed to declare the pendant in her asset disclosures. They also allege the jewellery was provided by a construction company. Such gifts could amount to illegal benefits under South Korean law.

Kim has denied wrongdoing and claims the pendant is fake. She stated she bought it in Hong Kong 20 years ago.

However, prosecutors insist it is genuine and linked to corporate favours. This dispute over the pendant has become a key focus of the case. Investigators are also reviewing other luxury items allegedly received by Kim.

Additional allegations claim Kim accepted two Chanel bags and a diamond necklace as bribes. The case also involves accusations against former President Yoon himself. He faces charges of rebellion and abuse of power.
