Gandapur Files Petition in Supreme Court to Meet Imran Khan for Budget Consultations

ISLAMABAD: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has filed a petition in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, seeking permission to hold weekly meetings with jailed former Prime Minister and PTI founder Imran Khan at Adiala Jail.

The petition, submitted on Wednesday, argues that regular consultations with Imran Khan are essential for finalising the provincial budget for the fiscal year 2025–26. Gandapur emphasised that the PTI founder’s input is critical to ensuring sound governance and effective budget planning.

The plea further urged the apex court to implement previously issued orders that uphold the right to meet with Imran Khan and to remove what it termed as “unjustified restrictions” imposed by the jail authorities.

CM Gandapur maintained that denying him access to the former prime minister violates Articles 9, 10A, and 19 of the Constitution, which guarantee the right to life, fair trial, and freedom of expression, respectively.

Earlier, the chief minister appeared before Justice Mansoor Ali Shah of the Supreme Court and requested immediate intervention. However, Justice Shah declined to entertain the request directly, instead advising Gandapur to take the matter to Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and the Registrar of the Supreme Court.
