Gold Prices Drop Sharply

KARACHI – Gold prices in Pakistan witnessed their sharpest single-day decline in years on October 28, 2025, following a significant drop in international markets. According to the All-Pakistan Gems and Jewellers Sarafa Association (APGJSA), the price of 24-karat gold fell by Rs14,000 per tola, closing at Rs416,362. The previous day, it stood at Rs430,362. This decrease was mirrored by a drop in the price of 10 grams of 24-karat gold, which fell by Rs12,003 to Rs356,963.

The 10-gram 22-karat gold also saw a major decline, dropping Rs11,004 to Rs327,227. The sharp price correction comes amid growing optimism about a potential U.S.-China trade deal. Internationally, gold prices tumbled by $140 per ounce, from $4,080 to $3,940, marking one of the largest daily declines in recent months.

In addition to gold, silver prices also followed the downward trend. The rate of silver per tola decreased by Rs173, settling at Rs4,924. Similarly, the 10-gram silver price dropped by Rs148 to Rs4,221. In the international market, silver prices fell by $1.73, reaching $46.62 per ounce.

Global markets have been buoyed by optimism surrounding the U.S.-China trade deal, which has lowered demand for safe-haven assets like gold. On Wall Street, stock indices reached record highs on positive sentiment surrounding the trade talks. The renewed hope for a trade deal has shifted investor attention away from gold, which has traditionally been a safe-haven during economic uncertainty.

In Pakistan, where the rupee is under pressure, gold remains a popular investment. Despite the recent price drop, gold is still seen as a reliable store of wealth, especially in uncertain times. As market volatility rises, gold continues to hold its value, proving crucial for both traditional and modern financial strategies in the country.
