Good News for Consumers: Electricity Prices Likely to Decrease

Islamabad: There’s good news for electricity consumers as prices may come down in the coming days, offering significant relief through monthly and quarterly adjustments.

According to sources, under the fuel price adjustment for the month of March, electricity could become cheaper by 3 paisas per unit. Additionally, under the quarterly adjustment, a reduction of more than Rs. 1 per unit is expected.

In this regard, the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request for the monthly adjustment, on which a hearing will be held by NEPRA on March 29. During the month of March, a total of 8.409 billion units of electricity were generated at an average cost of Rs. 9.22 per unit, while the reference cost was Rs. 9.25 per unit.

Meanwhile, a request has also been submitted for the third quarterly adjustment of the fiscal year 2024-25, proposing a relief of Rs. 51.49 billion for the public. This includes a proposed reduction of Rs. 47.124 billion in capacity charges.

NEPRA is scheduled to hold a hearing on the quarterly adjustment on April 29, after which a final decision will be announced.
