Islamabad: Federal Minister for Railways, Muhammad Hanif Abbasi, has announced a special 20% discount on train fares during the three days of Eid-ul-Adha, offering relief to passengers travelling for the religious holiday.

Speaking to the media, the Minister said that five special trains will also be operated to accommodate the increased number of travellers during the festive period.

Highlighting Pakistan Railways’ recent performance, Hanif Abbasi noted that the department has made significant strides in the past 11 months. Railway revenue has reached Rs. 83 billion, with Rs. 42 billion generated from passenger services alone during the current fiscal year. Additional income is also earned through leased railway properties.

He emphasised that globally, rail freight services are a major source of revenue, and Pakistan Railways aims to adopt similar models by outsourcing selected services to improve efficiency and income.

The Minister also announced that a budget of Rs. 1 billion has been allocated for eight railway hospitals across the country. Plans are in place to modernise and outsource these hospitals, while ensuring that free healthcare services continue to be provided to railway employees and their families.
