The federal government has dismissed reports of a sharp increase in sugar prices, stating that the claims of sugar reaching Rs180 per kg are baseless.

Federal Minister for Industries and Production Rana Tanveer clarified that following Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s intervention, sugar prices have decreased. He stated that the PM has formed a committee under the leadership of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar to monitor the sugar price situation.

According to Rana Tanveer, government measures have led to a Rs5 per kg reduction, bringing the price down to Rs162 per kg. Additionally, in coordination with sugar mills, 135 stalls have been established across the country to provide sugar at a subsidized rate of Rs130 per kg, including two stalls in Islamabad.
