Government to convene Parliamentary National Security Committee meeting amid rising terrorism

In response to the escalating wave of terrorism in the country, the government has decided to convene a meeting of the Parliamentary National Security Committee to review the situation and formulate a strategy.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has initiated consultations to call the high-level meeting, which is expected to take place on March 19 or 20 under the chairmanship of National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.
The top military leadership and intelligence officials will participate in the closed-door session, where the entire National Assembly will be converted into the Security Committee. Federal ministers and leaders from all parliamentary parties have also been invited.
The military leadership will brief lawmakers on the increasing terrorist activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, addressing concerns and discussing future counter-terrorism strategies.
Additionally, the committee will review Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s proposal for a “National Action Plan 2.0”, focusing on expanding counter-terrorism operations. The implementation of the existing National Action Plan will also be assessed to ensure effective security measures across the country.
