Great news for the public! Reduction in electricity rates?

ISLAMABAD – In a major relief for power consumers, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has approved a reduction of Rs1.71 per unit in electricity tariffs across Pakistan, including Karachi, for the second quarter of 2025.
This development follows a request made by the federal government to provide financial relief to electricity consumers amid the ongoing challenges of inflation and rising living costs.
According to NEPRA, the reduction will be reflected in power bills issued from April to June 2025. This move is expected to benefit millions of residential and commercial users across the country.
However, NEPRA clarified that the relief will not apply to lifeline consumers — those who consume very low units of electricity and already receive subsidized rates.
The decision was finalized after NEPRA held a public hearing on April 4, 2025, where relevant stakeholders presented their views and data regarding the proposed tariff cut.
